Wara Art at York

Writer: Cheryl OsborneCheryl Osborne

This art form originated in Japan and was developed as a creative use for excess straw left over at the end of the rice harvest .First stop York Olive Oil to find the Western Ground Parrot secured behind a fence. Other sculptures of the water rat, the numbat, the Western Swamp Tortoise, the Murray cod and the bilby (our favourite) were spread around town. Then up to Mt Brown for a bird's eye view of the town and countryside before heading to the Sock Factory. Our lunch stop was at the Flour Mil.
