An almost full bus wended its way down Mundaring Weir Road to Asher Road. A lot of the bush had been subject to controlled burns, so was bare, black and dusty. The living room of Barbara and Greg’s home was warm and inviting, a fire burning brightly, tables set with fine china, gleaming glass and silver ware. Spokes excelled in their catering; some of the delectable fare – cream matchsticks, fairy cakes, brandy snaps, chocolate brownie, rum balls, scones, jam and cream, cheese biscuits, mushroom vol-au-vents and dainty sandwiches, lubricated with ‘bubbles’ and bottomless cups of tea and coffee. A very pleasant couple of hours, enjoying each other’s company, eating too much, all in a good cause. Many thanks Barbara and Greg for sharing their home, especially Barbara who had polished the silverware and later eschewed help with the washing up, whilst coping with a badly gashed finger.
